Basic tips on handles with latches for your doors

The hardware that must be installed to put a latch on your door handle is called a bolt or bolt. By law, currently all the crutches and sentences on the market (in Spain) have their security unlock, whether for children or adults. In the past, in order not to have problems, it was better not to let children or very adult people lock themselves in the bathroom or bedrooms, since it was likely that the latch mechanism would break down and therefore opening the door would be impossible. Currently, there is no need to worry since just by turning the release on the outside of the door, it would be enough to unlock the handle and thus be able to operate the handle.

As we see in the image, the latch goes on the inside of the door, and on the outside it has the unlock, which is as if it were a screw that just by turning it we can open the door. Unlocking is very important not only if we have children at home, but also for the elderly since anyone can suffer a fall, an attack or need help (for example), and this way we can more easily enter to provide help.

The handles and locks (latches) are very easy to install as long as the door has a latch installed that can accommodate both a handle and a latch. Currently, all doorknobs sold have that hole for the lock, although not all doors have that hole made in the wood to install the lock. It is very likely that, even if you do not see a second hole in the door, the handle has a latch option, and to be sure you would have to remove the handle from the door. If it has that second hole, take the distances between the hole in the handle (which is a little larger) and the hole in the handle. You can find two different distances;

• Distance of 47; In this case, it would be necessary to install a 35mm bolt or condemnation so that the latch does not rub against the door handle.
• Distance of 70 ; If the distance were 70, a crutch or sentence of either 35 or 50 could be installed, although it is preferable for aesthetics that it be 50.

*If you want to install a lock or lock on a handle with a plate, you would also have to take the measurements of the handle and make a round keyhole (12mm) in the handle plate.

Once you have verified that the handle has a locking option, and the measurements have been taken, you would have to make a hole in the door at the height where you can install the lock or lock.

Handles with latches, in short, are currently the ideal solution for bathrooms and rooms where privacy is needed. In addition, it is a very economical solution to lock your door that will provide security to your doors. Depending on the rosette of the handle, whether it is round or square, the handle or condemnation must match a similar rosette. In the event that the bolt or condemnation is for a handle with a plate for your doors, the latch will go without a rosette and a hole must be made in the plate to a measurement that matches that of the installed handle.
