What are nuts and what are they for?

Nuts are metal parts that have a threaded hole in the center. They are used to fix or join other parts using screws or bolts. Nuts can have different shapes, sizes and materials depending on the type of application.

Most common types of nuts

There are many types of nuts , but some of the most common are:

- Hex nut: has six sides and is adjusted with a wrench of the same size.

- Square nut: it has four faces and is used in places where there is little space to turn the key.

- Wing nut: it has two wings that allow you to tighten or loosen it with your fingers.

- Blind nut: it has a closed end that prevents the screw or bolt from protruding from the other side.

- Self-locking nut: has a nylon or metal ring that prevents loosening due to vibration or movement.

How to choose the right nut

To choose the right nut for each case, several factors must be taken into account, such as:

- The diameter and thread of the screw or bolt to be used.

- The material and finish of the nut , which must be compatible with that of the piece to be fixed.

- The strength and durability of the nut , which must be sufficient to withstand the loads and environmental conditions to which it will be exposed.

- The ease of installation and disassembly of the nut , which will depend on the type of tool and access you have.

Nuts are essential elements in many areas of engineering, construction, mechanics and DIY. Therefore, it is important to know its characteristics and functions to choose the most appropriate one for each project.
